Fees and Payment

I do accept insurance for payment in most cases. I am an in-network psychologist with some health insurance plans, but not all. If you have out-of-network benefits, I will give you a completed, standard, Health Insurance Claim Form at the end of each month that you could submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. You should first check to make sure:

  • if you have in-network or out-of-network benefits (which means that you can be reimbursed for seeing a provider who does not participate in your plan),
  • what your deductible is,
  • what percentage of the fee they will reimburse,
  • how many sessions they cover, and
  • whether you need approval first.

If this process seems overwhelming, feel free to contact my secretary at 414-332-7400, ext. 110. Please note that some insurance companies do not reimburse for marital therapy, or do so only for shorter therapy sessions. My work with couples emphasizes longer, 90-minute, sessions to allow necessary time for exploring and resolving emergent issues that cannot be done in shorter sessions.

Many individuals choose to pay for my services out of pocket rather than through their health insurance benefits. Here are some important reasons for this choice:

  • The confidentiality of the work is maintained. Since insurance benefits are not being accessed, no information is shared with them, except by your expressed written consent.
  • Treatment plans and goals are developed with you, not a third-party insurance company that may be motivated to cut costs and minimize payments, which may result in ineffectively short treatment. We work collaboratively to decide upon the best course of treatment.
  • Most insurance companies do reimburse 50-75% of the fees charged as part of their out-of-network coverage. Check with your insurance provider about your coverage for specific information. You'll find this described in the behavioral or mental health out-of-network coverage section.

If you do not have out-of-network benefits and are unable to pay my full fee, I would be willing to discuss moderating my fee at the initial consultation.
